Why did Evolve EdTech become Tristan Heron?

The short answer: the corporate-sounding umbrella name never quite fit what I was actually doing.

This wasn't a snap decision. It's been about six months in the making. The more I thought about it, the clearer it became that "Evolve EdTech" sounded like a company, when really, this has always just been me. A working teacher, sharing what I know and what I love with other teachers.

Moving to my own name means what you read here comes from one classroom teacher's actual experience, not a brand voice written to sound like everyone else in the EdTech space. This isn't about becoming a tech expert. It's about giving YOU straight answers from someone who's still marking papers on a Sunday night, same as you.

A name like "Evolve EdTech" can work well for a lot of businesses. But it kept putting a layer of corporate polish between me and the teachers I was actually trying to help. When you're deciding whether to trust advice about technology in your classroom, it helps to know exactly who's giving it, and why. Tristan Heron is a lot more direct about that. There's no team of consultants behind this. There's a teacher who's tested what he shares, in his own classroom, before he ever puts it in front of you.

Who is Tristan Heron?

I'm a fully qualified K-12 teacher here in Australia, which means I'm trained to teach anywhere from kindergarten (or "prep," the start of primary school) right through to Year 12, the end of high school.

My teaching majors are in English and History, and I've spent most of my 16 years in the profession working in high school classrooms. I've been at my current school for a decade, and I'm a proud public educator through and through. I've seen a lot of change in that time, a lot of new platforms and new initiatives come and go, and I know what's worth your attention and what isn't.

That's a fairly deliberate part of how I approach EdTech content. Sixteen years is long enough to have sat through the PD sessions that promised the world and delivered nothing you could use on a Monday morning.
